It grew out of an effort by State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef to bring together a group of business people, volunteers and religious organizations to form the Coalition for Welfare to Work. Career Closet clients are able to select four outfits for the spring and summer season and return for another four outfits for the fall and winter season. The program is open only to people recommended by a job-training or counseling program, and they shop by appointment on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. to noon. Volunteers meet clients at a train station or bus stop and help them select clothing at Career Closet.
